computer not recognizing microSD/transflash

i just got a 1 gig microSD/transflash for my phone, but when i use the adapter and plug it into the SD slot on my computer the computer doesn't even recognize thats it's there. If i go to my computer and click on the apporpriate drive it just says "please insert a disk into the drive", even though i have the microSD in the SD slot. It doesn't seem to be a fualty SD either, seeing as how it works fine on my phone, i was able to format it and eveyrthing on my phone, but still doesnt work on the PC. Any ideas?
