Computer not booting to Windows XP login screen

orbitingaround

Hi, I'm new on these boards, having lurked for a few months. Anyway, I have a computer with the following specs:

ASUS A7V333 MB
Athlon XP 2200+
WD 40 gig HD
512 MB 2700 Samsung RAM
8500 Radeon LE
Sony 16x DVD ROM
Sony 40x CD-R/RW

One day while trying to play Need for Speed 2: Hot Pursuit, (a game I play a lot), I got an error message that said something about software corruption. I figured it was no big deal since I was using a burned CD, but when I restarted the computer, it would not boot past the BIOS system spec. page into the Windows XP login screen. The computer just kind of reloads that screen every five seconds or so. I've tried rebooting using Safe mode, rebooting using the "last good configuration", rebooting off of the Windows XP CD, running both scans with the XP CD, and nothing works. I've tried reinstalling windows XP, but when I hit F8 to install after the user lisence agreement, nothing happens. Is there something wrong with data corruption on the hard drive?, or is there some part of my computer or connection that's gone bad? Thanks.

boot the XP cd and run the diagnostics

you probably have a fubard file system on your hard drive,

you'll need to run these from a command prompt
fixmbr
fixboot
chkdsk /r

and see what that gets you.

Thanks, I had a friend fix it for me. He basically ran the Windows XP repair, and everythings fine again. Don't know exactly what went wrong in the first place though.
