Computer not booting, help needed

Hello,

I have an old build (approx 4.5 yrs old) which was working perfectly except a glitch where while booting it would get stuck at BIOS screen and would continue to work after loading with default settings (though in this case my system timing would reset to year 2009). This continued to happen for a month and then one fine day my system gave an error at BIOS screen "New CPU installed" and even using default BIOS settings failed to boot.

Whenever I press Power button on the case the case and CPU fans spins but shut off after few seconds. This happened in January and since then I am without my system.

I took below steps since then but all in vain.

1. I tried bread-boarding with just CPU, MoBo and PSU but still failed.

2. Gave my PC to a local repair shop to identify the failing part. He tested the MoBo with different PSU but failed to get it to work. Hence I bought a new MoBo (Gigabyte B75M-D3H) and still failed in step 1 above which made me consider buying a new PSU.

3 Luckily my PSU was in warranty and I got it replaced with Corsair RM750x yesterday and was excited to test it, I tested it but my system failed as usual. I even reverted to stock CPU cooler and yet the fan spins for few seconds with no beeps at all.

4. So now I am down to a new MoBo and PSU and an old CPU and system refuse to boot. This makes me conclude that CPU has gone bad. Is it the case? Please help.

I am from India and its very difficult for me to source lga 155 socket components when Skylake is the latest technology. I might have to consider upgrading to Skylake build but that will cost me a hefty amount. Therefore I want to ensure that all the checks have been done to declare my CPU as dead before I go for new CPU.

I would really appreciate any help I can receive from all the experts. Thanks in anticipation!

Below are my PC specs (built during 2011):
CPU - Intel i5 2500K
Motherboard - Asus P8P67 Pro
CPU cooler - CM Hyper 212X
Graphics Card - MSI Twin Frozr II R6950
PSU - Corsair TX750-C
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 4 GB 1600 Mhz (CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9)
Cabinet - CM 690 II advanced

Upgraded components (bought after the issue):
Motherboard - Gigabyte B75M-D3H
PSU - Corsair RM750x

Just to let all know, after getting the new PSU I tried using it with both MoBo (P8P67 pro and B75M-D3H) but failed to get success. Asus board does not show any sign of light except onboard LEDs, but with Gigabyte board the CPU and case fan spins for few seconds before stopping. I am still clueless.

FYI, I have not tested my new B75M-D3H board other than trying to use it on current build. I never overclocked my CPU, the only CPU abuse I could recall is when it was overheating few months ago and I added CPU cooler (CM Hyper 212X). after that it continued to run stable.

Fans spinning then stopping is a little odd for a CPU issue. That usually indicates a power or grounding issue in my experience. Make sure the power connections on the board are correct. Make sure there is a speaker connected to the board for its beep codes. You may want to try it in the case again to eliminate grounding issues. Was the CPU being overclocked when it was working?

I tried it inside the case as well with similar result. Unfortunately I am not having any spare components to substitute and check.

Unfortunately no beep codes, even though a speaker is connected to motherboard.

RAM could have gone bad too. Try booting without any RAM at all, and make sure to have a speaker plugged in. If it gives you beep codes, then chances are, the CPU is working OK. You might need new RAM in that case.

I tried it without RAM as well but same problem.

Basically, I tried with bare minimum i.e. MoBo, CPU and PSU with speaker but no beep codes.

It could be a motherboard or processor problem.... You should be getting a beep code once memory sticks are not installed and if your motherboard while attached to the speakers, is not giving any beep codes, then it could possible be a bad motherboard.... It could also be your processor also - but my best bet is that it's the motherboard... Before you buy any parts at all, take the PC to a computer technician to prove exactly what the bad component is instead of wasting money in getting something and it ends up not being the problem part..

Thank you everyone for advice... Much appreciated.

I did consult a technician and he narrowed down to MoBo and hence I bought a new MoBo but when that had the same problem I was inclined to think it was the PSU and hence got it replaced in warranty. But even after that the problem persists.

Let me see if I can get hold of another technician who knows his job well.

Maybe the new motherboard is DOA? Did the tech test your 2500k?
