I built this system about 3 years ago, and everything has been fine since then...no troubles or down time. I have not added or removed any components in at least a year. So the problem I'm having is definitely hardware-related.
Specs:
Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-SLI
AMD 64 3000+
MSI NX6600GT-TD128E
Antec Neopower 480W
4x512MB Kingston ValueRAM PC2300
Everything was fine until about a week ago, when the screen went black and nothing worked. I restarted the computer, and everything seemed to be fine for a few hours then it happened again. I restarted again and an error popped up about a video problem. I restarted in safe mode and downloaded the most recent drivers (MSI 6600GT PCI-express) and restarted. Everything was fine for another day, until i opened up a video in media player...the screen went black after a few mintues. I restarted and nothing happened.
when i hit the power button, all the fans start spinning and the lights turn on, but i get no beeps and nothing else happens. I tried removing all but the essentials, still nothing. rotating/removing ram didn't help, and with no ram installed, still no beeps. I have a power supply tester, and everything is fine with the PSU.
Finally, when i remove the video card and start up the system, i get 1 long, 1 short beep as expected. So far, this has been the only thing i can do to get any sort of beep. Since it beeps without the card, but sits there doing nothing when the card is installed, is it likely my video card is dead? or could it be something else? I don't want to randomly start buying new parts since this thing is so old.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
