It's not an open DC project (guess they didn't need the extra computational capability?), but it is a usage of GPUs to solve scientific problems.

Edit: PS. I've been trying for the last few hours to get to boinc.berkeley.edu, and it seems to be down?
Was planning on re-installing BOINC onto my Q9300.

A whooping decrease in crunching times for their material simulations!
I wonder how many GPU's they use?
