computer may be dead ... need help and advice !

well today i went to turn on my computer after class today and everything seemed to fireup but ... no video was being displayed , all LEDs where solid, and no response from cd rom open button.. im just so frusterated right now i cant think strait, a new computer is not really in my budget right now and i need it for school. i think i have another power supply laying around here some place but for some reason i dont think that is gona solve the problem ? any help would be greatly appreciated ! . any details needed i will respond accordingly

Odd, but you may want to chill for a while, then when you're ready, get to diagnosing the problem.

To start off, I'd probably put in a spare cheapo PCI video card (or any vid card for that matter). If you don't have one, you can borrow someone else's or if you have more than one PC, you could switch out the video card too.

Alternatively, you can test out the monitor on another PC.

yea i got away from the computer for alittle bit .. went to the driveing range and hit some golf balls .. better now =) monitor works fine on my el-crapo 133 linux box so that is not the problem ..

im off to dig around for my old ATI rage that is around here some place ...

still no video .
mouse lights up .
no lights on keyboard.
all LEDS still solid.

this sound like
motherboard ?
power supply ?
processor . ?

do you hear the single "beep" when you turn on your computer? if you don't it's probably ram.

hmm no beep .. but all the code lights on my mobo are red .. which is supposed to mean bad processor ...

any ideas ?

trying to reseat this slot a processor .. what the trick to getting this thing out .. i suppose when i changed my heatsink the last time it was pure luck ..

gona fiddle with it some more today .. going to reseat everything and see what it does ... if i can get this chip out =(

if none of this works .. order stuff for a new system ?

i suppose it is time for an upgrade . but it was running and doing alot of the things i needed it to soooo well =( besides afew of the newer games

any recommendations on a fairly inexpensive mid end gaming machine would be awsome
or ideas for my situation !
