Computer Makes High Pitched Noise Even When Off

I just got back from a holiday, and - I don't know if I just never noticed this before - but my computer was making a high pitched noise even when it was turned off. When I pulled the plug, the noise went away after 10 seconds. It sounded like a fan. Is this normal, for a computer to have a fan running even when turned off? 😕

I have a ASUS A8N-E Athlon 3200 with Nvidia 6800GS from ABS Comp.

Take the side panel off, and see where the noise is coming from. It's most likely coming from your power supply, and usually happens when they're about to go kaput (or kaboom, as the case my be).

I used to run a GF6800 with an Athlon XP on an nForce 2 mobo as well and my computer would make a high pitched whining noise too. I had to shut off the power from the back everytime I turned it off to make it go away. So it might be a conflict with those 3 things oddly enough. I've heard of other people having this problem too. I never solved it after 3 and a half years, but when I upgraded my video card it went away. So that would be my advise, get a new GPU if you can swing it, otherwise I think you'll have to live with the whine and manually turning off the power like I did.
