Computer 'losing' network adapter

My brother has a computer with a D-Link 528 network card installed, but I keep running into a strange problem with it. Sometimes when the computer is first started up in the morning, it loses that network adapter, and detects it as something different (Realtek something or other). Anyways, what I always end up having to do is reinstall the device drivers and then reconfigure the network so that it's working again. It's a real pain.

The card is a PCI DE-528 adapter on a Athlon 750 w/KX133 chipset. Can anyone help me solve this problem? I've never seen anything like it before.
