Computer lockups when rebooting after BIOS flash

Ok, so I got my system up to 2,36 Ghz which I'm quite happy with. What I'm not happy with though is the fact that EVERY time I reboot after changing any BIOS setting (rev 1014) or restarting Windows, my monitor goes to "off-mode" and the computer hangs. I have to turn it off completely before starting up again, the the monitor comes on too. Reset-switch doesn't do it either.

I've tried clearing the CMOS again but that certainly didn't help and I've set the correct time and date in the BIOS. What on earth is going on??? I'm not experiencing any stability issues when overloading my CPU at this speed otherwise - I'm running Half-Life 2 😀 smoothly as well as long runs with Prime 95 torture tests and 3DMark03.

Greatful for any advice!

sounds like a simple case of the overclock screwing up the boot sequence. Maybe you'll have to drop down a few notches. Have you tried resetting to standard speeds to see if that fixes the problem?

I believe the reboot sequence worked when I ran it at 166 actually... do you mean to say that a slightly higher FSB can screw up the reboot-sequence?

I thought it had something to do with the BIOS update thingy (EZFlash). It never reported as having updated the Boot sector, only the main BIOS area.

a computer not booting is a classic example of taking an overclock slightly too far. However, it is strange how the normal operation of the computer seems fine apart form the initial boot. Have you changed and voltage settings for the CPU?

Definately set the computer back to default speeds when you flash the BIOS, it's a high risk operation.

Yes, I've raised the Vcore to 1.85 (temps 47C idle, 53C load).

I had not begun my overclocking experiment prior to flashing the BIOS.

I've contacted ASUS support about this issue. Like you I'm confused as to why the reboot sequence hangs but everything else runs flawlessly...
