Computer Locks When Transferring Large Files

I setup a small lan at my wife's office using a crossover cable. Everything works fine except for one thing. I can transfer a small file between them, but a large one cause the machine to lock.

Example: Machine 1 has a folder with about 150 mp3's. I am sitting at machine 2 trying to copy files over. One at a time, they copy fine. If I grab the whole folder and try to copy, it locks. Also, I tried to play the songs while sitting at machine 2. Locked up cold. Why can I transfer little files but no large ones?

I had the same problem last year in my small office LAN. Large file transfers to or from a homebuilt server would cause the server to crash. I tried everything known to man with no resolve. Went out and bought a Gateway 6400 server when they were $388 and have not had one problem since.

Not that it helps any, but that was one thing I could never resolve. Sorry.

I don't know that it would help, but you might try connecting via a switch instead. You could always return the switch if it doesn't get you anywhere.
