Here is the deal. Friend?s computer: Gateway Celeron, 64 megs RAM, Win 98. Old modem went out and Gateway was going to charge $86.00 for new one. I loaned him an old one but he couldn?t get it working. He brought it to work along with a new AOpen Modem.
I removed old hardware and started fresh. All seemed well until I tried to test the modem and the computer froze. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del wouldn?t work. No error code or anything. I tried Hyperterminal and the same thing happened as soon as it tried to connect.

He let me take his computer home for the weekend to try and figure it out.

What other things do I need to Check?

Thanks,

Cank

No, I have not tried that yet. One thing I did notice is that it installed on COM2 and not the usual COM3.

Found the problem.

Turns out windows installed wrong driver the first time I tried to use add hardware wizard. Then, even when I switched Ports it was finding the wrong driver again.
Solution:
Remove instance from hardware configuration.
Remove Conextant program the was installed.
Restart.
Specify location of driver, instead of letting windows search for it.

thanks for trying,
