Computer locking up in games

I am currently having problems with my system - after a few minutes of playing games such as Unreal Tournament and X-Wing Alliance, my computer just freezes. I can't figure out what is causing this. My cpu temp whenever this happens is no higher than 42C. I am using a Duron 750 on an Iwill KK266, with the video card being an AIW Pro, PCI version, rest of system is in my sig. Using Win98SE. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: This is not a total lockup, as the in game music continues playing as normal, but the controls become unresponsive, and I can't even alt-ctrl-del it.

have you tried a different vid card?

how long between lockups? if its totally random (ie sometimes 2 minutes, othertimes 2 hours), then its probably not heat related.

What about games using the Quake 3 engine?

Asking coz I'm having the same prob (though different hardware) in nearly all D3D games but not Quake 3 engine games (mebbeh it's OpenGL {G})

warlord, I don't have another video card to try it with. 😱
I think I've got it fixed. I used the windows 98 drivers instead of the ATI drivers, and that seemed to do the trick. But, I don't have opengl support in half life. I'm going to mess with it some more to make certain it isn't a temperature problem. If it is heat related, would it probably be the video card overheating? The video chip is bare, no heatsink.
And ugh, I only have Q3A for Dreamcast, and no games based on its engine.

Umm... Try d/lding the Q3A demo and play it for a while. BEtter still, make it it on a demo loop and see if it hangs or not.
