Here is my setup:
P3 733eb
Abit SE6
128mb PC133
13gig HD

Every time I boot up my brothers computer it locks up right as it says "Updating DMI pool data..." Anyone have any ideas why or what could be causing this?

Thanks,
Brian

yea, ive had that prob before, from my experences it indicates that somethign is wrong with the hard drive chain somewhere. check cable conections (hard disk and mobo) replace cables if that doesnt work, and if putting a known-to-be-good cable in there doesnt work, than take the hard drive out and put it into another comp, see if it will work in another computer.. if it does, i dont know what to tell ya... experment.

when it happened to me, the controller chip on my hard disk died, i beleve. the bios saw the drive fine and everyting, it jsut wouldnt boot with the drive on there. i removed it, and it worked fine.
goof luck,
Jason

Though it can be many things, I'd look at the IDE controller first. Try disconnecting the HD ribbon cable from the MB and stick a bootable floppy in and see what happens.

If it is still no go, try a different stick of RAM.

If still no go, try clearing your CMOS and reboot.

It would be very helpful to know more about your machine, new build, anything changed recently, BIOS version, what type of HD, has it ever worked, etc.

Thanks for your help guys. Apparently my SE6 is having problems working with any type of Western Digital harddrive(I tried two). The instant I popped in a Maxtor drive it worked fine.

Thanks,
Brian
