Computer keeps wanting to dial internet connection...

I am running Windows XP Pro. I have two internet providers, one a dial up internet connection and the other cable. Normally, I always use the cable connection. The dial up is a backup in case of problems with the cable connection. My problem is, after I set up the dial-up connection on the computer and then open internet explorer wanting to use the cable connection, the dial-up windows automatically pops up and wants to dial in. I cannot access the internet with my cable connection without this happening. I have unchecked the box for my dial up connection that says to dial whenever a connection is not present. I have also removed the default connection setting for the dial up connection. It still keeps popping up. How do I stop the dial up window from popping up when I want to access the internet with my cable connection?

Run the network setup wizard again for your cable connection, that should prob. solve your issue. Hope this helps... 🙂

In internet explorer, goto tools>options>connections. for each of the connections listed, you must make sure that the "Never dial a connection" option is selected. try this and let me know if it works.

Thanks for the replies. I tried the suggestions and they did not work. I finally removed the dial up connection to get the cable to work and then recreated the dial-up connection. Seems to work okay now (default to cable).

Yea, tbalon was on the right track.... You need to set your LAN as the default connection, then make sure it's set to either never dial a connection, or dial whenever a network connection is not present.

But you got it working now, so all is good...

Ugh reminds me of my MSN TechSupport Job I had 😛
