computer keeps trying to go on standby with standby set as 'never'?

This Compaq system keeps trying to go onto standby mode in w98se even with standby mode set as never in power management... could some of its hardware be trying to force it to do so? this is causing problems because I believe the computer dissapears from the network as well as a result of this .. any ideas?

Make sure that the BIOS settings are set to MANUAL and then you can configure them in Win98..otherwise the BIOS settings might be overriding the Win98 settings..Regards
