Computer Keeps Restarting

When I turn on my computer, the systems loads and I go into the desktop. I have XP Pro OS.

After a few seconds, I get the error box "Windows has recovered from a serious error" and asks if I want to report it to Microsoft. Before I can do anything, the systems restarts. This happens over and over and over in a viscious loop.

Other things I see on desktop before it restarts:
1. There is a command box which comes up which is titled Java SATARAID. In the box there is a bunch of text which I cannot read, but the word "debug" is at the end of it.
2. My Norton virus protection states a notice that it has detected and blocked a worm. It says:
Security Rule Default Block Ultor's Trojan horse
Path C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe

I had just installed Java the night before. The computer was working fine after the Java install until I started it up this morning.

I tried booting in Safe mode to uninstall Java but I kept hitting F8 and it would not go into safe mode.

Can anyone help???

Thanks.

Can you boot w/ your Norton CD? Set your BIOS to boot from CD, then run Norton.

I had serious problems w/ Norton missing and not being able to fix malware. John, an elite member here on AT, put together a comprehnsive program for debugging infected comps. It works. You can find it HERE

I've since switched to NOD32 AV, but Kaspersky is an excellent AV program as well.

It sure sounds like you picked up something nasty from the internet. :( Boot up Windows in Safe Mode With Networking. (Hit F8 right after the BIOS posts but before Windows starts to load.

Once you're in Windows, run an antivirus check, spybot check etc. You should be able to update your AV and Spyware programs before you check, if they aren't up to date.

I would also uninstall Java. Then run the AV checks again. Did you download java from java.sun.com? Get it from there. Sounds like maybe you picked up a virus in the process of installing Java.

The OP mentioned that he was unable to boot into safe mode, as pressing F8 did absolutely nothing.

best thing to do is reinstall windows...and if it persists you have a hardware problem. Javaw isn't/shouldn't be a virus. It CAN do things that make it seem like a virus but look at your Event Viewer.
