Like, the whole screen just completely freezes, and I must do a hard restart. It has been happening once or twice a day now, and it seems to be increasing in frequency. I know there's a billion or so possibilities out there as to why it is happening.

But still I ask. Why? My suspicion is that there's probably a dust buildup in my case, since I haven't opened it in months. But could it also be software related?

I'm running spyware/adware/etc checks just in case.

Could be overheating due to dust bunnies, could be cpu, mobo or ram. Test for CPU stability with prime95 and check your ram with memetest, links to those programs are in a stickie in the CPU forums

without knowing specs and you spending the time to look inside the physical and spftware of the system there's a few 1000 possibilities.
