Computer keeps getting "frozen" while on the Internet

Thanks to all the members who gave suggestions regarding my earlier query. With those suggestions, I went home and did a bit of investigation and found out that my problem is not quite getting "disconnected" but getting "frozen", hence the new thread.

Here is the problem: after being on the Internet for about half an hour or so with no problems, the Internet part of the computer gets frozen: that is while all the other parts of the computer (e.g. games, word processor) works, I cannot get to any new web sites or receive mail. The mail program (MS Outlook)gives an error regarding a Socket Error. The window for the connection shows that no bites are being received although some bites keeps getting sent once in a while.

Any (more) suggestions?

Ok, I had this problem a while back, however I didn't get that socket error message. So I'm not sure how usefull this will be. For me it was line noise. The noise would get so bad (while it wasnt bad normaly, it just spiked some times) that my ISP would be unable to receve data from me any more. Then they had to drop me. Well, my computer would still be conected, but the modem wouldn't be sending anything, waiting for the line to be freed. So, I had to call up the phone company to repetadly test and fix the lines 🙁 But it eventualy got working again.

Just a word of warning: They may charge you if they don't find noise on your lines.

I cannot say if it is "strange" but it is definetly way above my head. :-(

I am almost sure that I have no such card.

I had a problem with ie5 freeing all the time and I traced the problem to a direct-draw driver issue, And yet the problem wasnt sorted by updating the drivers, it turned out the PS was the problem and replacing it solved the issues.
