I just got an ATI Xpert 16mb PCI graphics card. Since I installed it, my computer constantly freezes. There are no device conflicts shown in the device manager, the card is seated properly, and I downloaded the update drivers off of ATI's website. Any heavy 3D graphics games play fine, but whenever I go on the internet, the computer tends to freeze. Ctrl, Alt, + Del will not even respond. My system consists of:

466mhz Celeron
256mb of RAM
16mb graphics card
PCI network card
15gig and 30 gig harddrive
Creative Labs DVD ROM IDE
Sony CDRW drive IDE

I also have disabled the on board AGP graphics. Very fustrating problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Which PCI slots are you using for your NIC and your video card? Try switching the cards around cuz PCI slots share irqs.
Even though device manager shows no conflicts, There still could be as they are not both trying to use the same irq at the same time, but when you try to access the net, they are.

I only have 2 pci slots. I'll try to switch them around and see what happens. Any response is always appreciated.

grr.. onboard video.

Double check that disablement. And then head over to ATI's site for the latest beta drivers. As always make sure your OS is patched up.

check device manager >> computer properties >> irqs to determine whether any irqs are being shared

Tried switching the graphics card with the ethernet card, but it still freezes. Double checked the onboard video being disabled and found out it is still listed under device manager! I removed it from there and rebooted the computer. Pnp picked it right back up and installed the drivers! I double checked the jumper setting and it is just like eMachine lists on their website. It says to jumper 1 and 2 for disable and jumping 2 and 3 enables onboard video. I e-mailed eMachine, but to my surprise they haven't answered the e-mail. Anybody have any experience or suggestions on this matter? It has become impossible to play UltimateBet.com (online poker program) without freezing! Thanks to all replys. Hopefully we can fix this problem since eMachine doesn't want to!

That's funny TravisBickle. It's only for fun, no real money. It just 7 card Hold 'em poker. Don't have the money to waste on real gambling.

Within Windows, do not "remove" the device from the device manager; rather, disable it. I had the same problem with an old Compaq Presario with onboard video. If you remove the device, Windows will without fail re-detect the onboard video.

I disabled the AGP in Windows but still freezing. I think Microsizzle has the right idea about the two sharing irq's when I access the internet. Graphics card is on irq 10 and the network is on irq 11. I looked and found irq 3 is available but I don't how to make one use this irq. Can anyone help? Thanks for all your help!

go to device manager >> system devices >> pci bus >> irq steering and try changing the settings (win uses the algorithms in order, so disaable the top one first)
