Computer keeps freezing when it goes to Standby

I don't kno what is wrong with my computer. Everytime i leave it on for awhile . . . it freezes . my screen blanks out when i try to get it out of standby mode i get the mouse that reacts but nothing else. . . juss a black screen with a mouse cursor moving around. how do i disable stand by mode? does it have to do with BIOS or Win 98? please advise. thanks
 
Are you running 98? if so, that is a common problem with 98.. go to microsofts website and look at the tech docs for 98.. you should find a patch there for that.
