With all of these layoffs and etc I am sort of scared about going into computers. I am going to college now and will probably get a Masters, and hopfully study abroad in Japan :) What do you guys think the next few years are going to be like, are $45,000 a year jobs going to be available out of college still or are computer jobs going to be like gas pumping jobs?

i think that in the next few years, the computer industry is definitely a good place to be in. for one thing, the slump that our economy is in currently will be done with in the next year or two (probably less), so a lot of new jobs will be opening up as the economy gets better. also, the computer industry is constantly moving forward, and as more and more people and businesses get computers, the job opportunities get better.
i say stick with it!

hey, I answer the phone and force old people to use the self scan registers at Kmart. Damn old people, always shaking their heads and saying they can't use them they need a person to scan them. I hate dumb-old people, and slow-driving old people too.

Understanding "computers" is a valuable skill (in quotes because it's such a vague term..) While there's a slump now, it'll shake itself out after a while and the economy will start growing again.
