Computer Issues

Ok so I really needed computer help bad and this is the first forum I found off of gooogle.. Here is my story

I recently brought this computer... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-de...77.p?id=1219334564775&skuid=8447977&sellerId=

AMD A10-6700 Accelerated Processor with AMD Radeon HD 8670D graphics
8GB DDR3 memory
3.7GHz

I mainly got it for gaming, but the problem is my games don't work that well with it. I play a game called League of Legends and I get a lot of FPS drops/Low FPS. When I'm in a team fight or taking down an objective my FPS drops like 30+ causing me to lag and it's not that high in the first place. I don't get why I'm having these problems.

All my drivers are up to date and everything. If someone could help me out that would be great. Thanks.

What resolution are you running? The AMD 8760 was considered a mid-range card when in entered the market 5 years ago. A modern game might just be pushing it too far.

The good news is that all the models I have seen require an auxiliary power connector. Look and see if your does, and what the wattage rating of your power supply is. You may be upgrade to a better video card, if that's what you want to do.

Sorry I'm not really smart when it comes to computers. How do I check my resolution, the auxiliary power thing, and the wattage rating of my power supply?

Gotcha. Well, let's take this one step at a time, and let me know if the steps are too small/big.

Resolution, in this case, depends on the game. There should be a settings or options menu in the game that tells you this.

Tell us what resolution your games are at, and that will help us determine what to look at next.

Oh I thought you meant resolution of my PC lol. Its at 1450x900 usually that's what every League player plays at.

rdsmacker, I'm trying to understand why you think you should have better performance?

Because I have 8 GB of memory, 3.7 GHZ, and AMD Radeon HD 8670D graphics card that should be MORE than enough to run this game smoothly without FPS drops at certain moments. I also move really laggy not smooth at all.

Turn down the graphics quality settings in the game. You should have enough hardware to run the game at a decent FPS.

Technically, you don't have a graphics card at all.

Your "graphics card" is built into your AMD A10 cpu chip.

If you had even a low end dedicated graphics card, you would have much better graphics performance.

Thanks LTC8K6, I see that now. I was hoping it had the dedicated version, but I see that is what they call the integrated chip on that CPU (hard to look this stuff up on the phone).

I wonder if providing a bit more dedicated video memory would help. I don't know what this memory would come set to at stop speed.

RDSmacker, of your 8 GB of RAM, how much does Windows say is available?

RDSmacker, just to give you something to think about. If you unable to get the computer to play games the way you like, you need to start thinking about what you are willing to spend to get it there.

A low-power card like this costs about $100 and should fit in the constraints of the included power supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127788&ignorebbr=1

And would handle your games (and future games) substantially better than what you have now.

1. 7.19 GB useable it says
2. I turn everything on low on league
3. Your saying the problem is my graphics card LTC8k6? Shouldn't it be decent enough to hold a game like league of legends. The AMD 8670 was promoted by a lot of people for gaming.

It wouldn't hurt to run CoreTemp (doesn't work with 8/8.1 64-bit, last I checked) or RealTemp, or GPU-Z, and check temps while gaming, just to make sure nothing is throttling under load.

If you had a separate 8670 video card with GDDR5 memory, it would be a lot faster.

But you don't...

You have the 8670 igp, which is built in to your A10 processor, and uses your relatively slow ddr3 system ram as it's video memory, and has a relatively slow clock speed, among other things that may slow it down, such as throttling under load.

Here are the comparable igp and separate card passmark scores.

820 for the 8670D igp
1,413 for the R7-250 / 8670oem

Yeah it's a bit of a misnomer because it does have a lot of the core features of the 8670, but the system RAM does hold it back.

It also sounds like the settings in the BIOS are only allocating about 512 MB of RAM for the video card. Might want to bump that up to 1 GB and see if things improve. But it won't be near the improvement you would see from a dedicated video card.

Well I would take the PC back but maybe it's too late to do that. Adding a dedicated GPU is good advice if you can't return the PC.

If you can return it then either buy a pre-made that uses a dedicated GPU or build a custom PC. You will learn a lot in the process of DIY and it's not that hard to do.

Your graphics "card" is built into the CPU. If what I read is correct, your motherboard does have a PCI-Express slot. So you would just need to buy a good card (like the one I linked), install it in that slot, and install the drivers off the CD that comes with it. If you are not experienced in doing this:

1. We can help if you want to learn.
2. You can take it to a local computer shop to do it for you.
3. You can ask a computer-savvy friend or family member to help you.

I would get a low cost AMD card, since it will use the same software drivers you already have.

R7-250
R7-250X
R7-360
