Computer isn't stable??? *NEED HELP ASAP*

Well I built this computer for my little brother a year ago. It's a basic Duron system with one stick 256 PC133 (kingston) and one stick 128 PC133 (kingston), a Quantum hdd, a cd-rom, and a cd-rw. The mobo is a Asus A7S-VM.

All of a sudden the computer randomly restarted itself. I figured nothing wrong. Then one day the registry was messed up. Dad said don't try to fix it and just reformat and install a new OS. I do that, but now as soon as the computer boots, it freezes, then restarts.

I reset the bios. Switched out the ram (both sticks), switch the CPU with a Athlon, even switched the hard drive and cables, nothing.

I'm pissed off at it, and am this close to ordering a new board and a new case for it.

Any help?

It's giving me some error about not being able to read "bootlog something". I'm currently running Win2k with SP3 on it. It was running ME, and it did the same thing. I ran the Win2k utility for maintanence that's on the cd, but it did nothing. What's wrong with it? This computer was stable for a whole year with nothing wrong.

Thanks!

I switched out the power supply and almost everything but the mobo and case. Still does it. I just changed the CMOS battery, same thing.

That is trying to tell U something ... Have U tried swapping HDDs and then re-installing the OS ?
Sounds like a HDD gone bad. Try to download the Utility from the Maxtor website and check the HDD.
Hope this works for U

Tried 3 hard drives with 3 differnt fresh installs. Nothing. I switched to a third power supply and it ran for 3 minutes then restarted.

Could the motherboard be bad? I've already tried multiples of every other component in the system and it still does that. I even switched the IDE cables.

A possibility is also BAD IDE cables. It caused one of my Barracuda 4's to disappear occasionally.

The IDE cables were changed also. The hard drive shows, and runs fine, it just randomly reboots. Sometimes it runs fine for 2 - 10 minutes then it'll reboot.

I guess it's time to shop at Newegg.
