This is my first post on the board.

I currently have a 300 Celeron Pentium MMX, with 64 Megs of ram. I also have an AGP Elsia Gloria 2 graphic card running.

Just recently I had replaced my motherboard from a Tyan Tiger 100 dual.. to a Gigabyte motherboard 6A-6VXE. I replaced the motherboard because one day the computer just did not turn on and that is why I compleley examined my system and I figured out that the motherboard was the problem.

I put my system back togethere and noticed it was runnig increadibly slow... right now it is slow.. Games run like they are on a 486 .. and when I scroll down through webpages I see the screen jumping.. nothing is smooth anymore. I wait 3 min to photoshop to load up. I am really determined to make the system work its regular potential.

I installed and ran SISoft Sandra.. and made some trouble shooting tests.. but I do not know what half of the results mean or how I should work with them..

It gave me great information on what is wrong.. but I do not konw how to go about fixing it.. I do not understand these terms..

Can someone please help me do this.. go line by line and explain how I should go about fixing the problems listed..

Thank You in advanced.

The translation:

  1. << SMBIOS/DMI information may be incaurate >>

Go into BIOS setup and check the "reset configuration" (probably in PCI/PnP menu)

  2. << SMBIOS/DMI infromation may be inaccurate >>

    probably related to 1

  3. << A SMBIOS/DMI 2.3 or later compliant bios is recommended. Check for bios update >>

Check your motherboard manufacturer's web site for a BIOS update. Download, read all the warnings, cautions, and directions, then install. Make sure you completely understand what you are doing if you haven't done this before.

  4. << Bios Can be shadowed so check whether it is >>

You can enable BIOS shadowing in the BIOS setup (should be in the same meuu as the RAM settings).

  5. << Processior 1:SMBIOS/DMI information may be incaccurate >>

    probably related to 1

  6. << Warning : Via technologies inc Via pci to AGP bridge : early verions of hardware may contain bugs or incompatibilities
Via technology does not support bus mastering
    >>

motherboard has an old chipset. i would ignore this

  7. << Warning: Bridgecom Inc. Unknown : PCI latency to high: device could hog the bus for too long >>

your PCI clock timings might be wrong; verify them in the BIOS setup (should be in same menu as RAM settings)

  8. << Warning <i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif> anasonic s15: use plug and pay/ddc compatible monitor and video adapter >>

your monitor is not PnP compatible; i would ignore this

  9. << c: - dma transfers improve performance. enable it if posible >>

go to "system properties" >> "device manager" >> "disk drives" >> "generic ide disk type..." >> "settings" >> enable "DMA"

  10. << c: - label name drive >>

    ignore: name your partition

  11. << c: - change typical role to "Network Server" to improce disk performance >>

go to "system properties" >> "performance" >> "file system" >> "hard disk" >> set to "network server". note: this setting increases the disk cache, names cache, and directory cache, it may decrease availiable free memory by a couple MBs, but performance gain is worth it

  12. << d: - dma transfers improve performance. enable it if posible >>

    related to 9

  13. << d: - label name drive >>

    ignore: name your partition

  14. << d: large cluster sizes waste disk space.. break into smaller portions or use fat 32 >>

you'll need to convert your partition to the FAT32 file system or use smaller cluster sizes, but if you alfredy have a large FAT32 partition and want to keep it that way, ignore this

  15. << d: - change typical role to "Network Server" to improce disk performance >>

    related to 11

  16. << e: - dma transfers improve performance. enable it if posible
    e: - label name drive
e: - change typical role to "Network Server" to improce disk performance
    >>

    related to above

  17. << creative s/w synth: driver may be obsolete. check for latest verions >>

check the creative web site for driver updates

  18. << Epson stylus color - print ot an emf data type to improve prining speede >>

    not sure what this is

  19. << double-buffering is only needed for real mode scsi devices >>

you'll need to edit msdos.sys to disable this; i don't want to explain, search for it on the web, otherwise, ignore

sytem jerkiness most likely caused by DMI; you should also run scandisk to check for disk errors, another probable cause for jerkiness

AC - awesome post.

Let me add that you might want to flash your motherboard's BIOS to the latest version (find that information on Gigabyte's website), and be sure you're using all the latest drivers for each of your cards (check all the manufg. websites for updates).

Finally, you NEED to have DMA enable on your hard disks for decent performance. You can do this by pressing WinKey+Pause and finding the disk, and enabling the DMA checkbox.

Thanks all ofr our reply.. and help.. I change all the things mentioned except udtaing the bios version and sound card.

I did everything...

also changed "Top Performance: Enabled" what ever that means.. in bios.

I changed everything now I have a problem with my E drive.. it wont let me run any program.. it keeps on cuming up with errors.{close operation}.. OR saying no rights .. that its restricted.
I do not konw what to do... anyway.. I am getting really mad.. and this machine.. I konw it sounds stupid but always some type of problem...

I have some questions:

what is this do exactly???

<< c: - change typical role to "Network Server" to improce disk performance >>

go to "system properties" >> "performance" >> "file system" >> "hard disk" >> set to "network server". note: this setting increases the disk cache, names cache, and directory cache, it may decrease availiable free memory by a couple MBs, but performance gain is worth it

<< SMBIOS/DMI information may be incaurate >>

Go into BIOS setup and check the "reset configuration" (probably in PCI/PnP menu)

how can I change the above option when my motherboard chip settings are manual.. I see no ram settings.. or other features in the bios...

whats going on..?

thanks
