Computer is generating too much heat

Hey there, my computer is an i7 and I have a gaming case as well. It always generated heat for a while now so my solution is to move the desktop itself into a closet in the hallway outside of the room its in. Basically i'm thinking about buying a usb extension cable then a hub and keeping my desk, keyboard/mouse and monitors in the room but moving the desktop out of it.

Do you guys think that's a good idea? The computer would be on the other side of a bedroom wall in a closet, outside of that closet is a very wide open room. Most of my heat is generating from the computer itself correct and not the monitors? The A/C can't even keep the room cool with the computer in it.

So basically what I need help with is finding a good USB hub that supplies it's own power because I could have a power surge if I use a regular cheap one correct? Also will there be an issue connecting a hub to a usb extension cable, then that to the computer? I also need to use 2x 25ft vga cables and run those out of the room.

What do you guys think? I don't think there's an easier way to get rid of the heat. I might as well use the computer as a heater for the big wide open room rather than the heat being all trapped in a small room.

Edit: How is this for some parts? What I'm using on the hub will be my keyboard, mouse and webcam and possibly something else in the future. My only worry is a hub won't be able to support all of these things at once.

My sense is that putting the computer in a closet will make it even hotter. Why not consider an improved cooling system?

Well it's a small double door closet and the doors will be open for the closet, so the hot air will be blowing out into the hallway.

Even if I get better cooling or more fans, same amount of heat will blow out. The only solution I would think is to get a better power supply, but the one I have now isn't that bad.

I'm not trying to cool the computer down, the temps are fine on that. I'm trying to cool the room down.

That would suggest a less than adequate A/C system. I have three computers running in a 12x14 ft bedroom, and the ambient temp runs about 75. I keep the A/C summer setting at 78 degrees. When it is 110 outside, that is plenty cool. A circulating fan in the room can also help.

The PC should not be giving off that much heat. Wow!

An air-cooled computer will be limited by the ambient temperature. You can add more fans to make it run cooler, but that will just dump more heat into the surroundings. Hiding the heat in a closet will just make the computer run hotter, increasing the likelihood of crashes, damaged parts.

If there is no way to make the ambient temp cooler, my suggestion would be to go water. The heat will be dumped into water, then the surroundings. You still will have a similar effect (heat=bad), but to a much lesser degree.

"my computer is an i7 and I have a gaming case as well. It always generated heat for a while now so my solution.. "

Best solution might just be to under-volt it some, where ever it is. Add a small focused circulating fan near by to also help.

If I was in that situation and I was, was this:

I bought the antec 900 case. Ok now pc is cool but like you my room stays hot when running it. You need to export the room air to the outside. Buy an exhaust fan.

If you do go extreme by putting the pc in the closet then you also need to vent the closet and you still need to port the heat somewhere. I guess you could buy a bathroom vent and buy the extra exhaust tubing similar to what is used in your bathroom. But if you do not care about hallway heat then just port the heat to the hallway. You just need to make a 2 holes in the closet. One at the bottom to let cold air in and a hole at the top to let the heat out.

Or do what I did. I just sit the pc on top of the AC unit in the summer and in the winter I place it on the window shelf with the window open.

I know how you feel! My pc was on my desk and the heat from it was cooking my face.

As a side note:

You can buy the hardware now but the price needs to come down a far way but they now sell mods to make your video card sit outside your in its own tiny box and fan thus keeping your pc even cooler. Just an option for you when those prices come down.
