awesome :D I've been thinking about doing the same thing this summer to my car.
One thing I've gathered is that people on here will tell you that it's not worth the trouble, but I mean, come on, how cool would it be to get in your car and on trips/anywhere be able to have GPS, or be able to distract the passenger(s) with movies/anything...

Good luck on the project, hope it goes well for you, becuase I hope the same happens for me ;)

I'd love to be able to do that not for the need, but for the bragging rights. Plus it would be uber cool to have in your car. :D

I did it...the hardest part is a) figuring out how to lessen the shock to the machine so you don't kill the HD and B) finding and attaching the display. Good luck with that.

I have a Black 96 GMC Sonoma. Not a lot of interior space, but there's room behind the driver seat to put things, however I also want to put a wedge with 6" subs and a small amp AND this computer case. I dont' know if it's possible, but i'll try.

One thing I KNOW i will do is make the computer portable. I'll be abel to attach the screen right to the casing and use an alternate power source for it. It shuld be nice. I'm just now thinking about it so I still have to lpan out the parts and such.

The space behind the driver seat is apprx 3'x7-9"x3'. NOT a lot of rom, so I'll need to see how I'll do this without getting EMF from the amp and subs I want to put in. The passenger side seat has a car jack and doesn't leav much room above that for anything, but that might be where I put a slimmish case for teh computer part and have the sub and amp behind the driver seat.

Crap...I hope the previous owner did a decent job with the audio wiring.

I have most all the parts for one, but then I ended up buying a head unit that would play mp3s. When looking at lcd screens, you want to find use a vga type screen, ones that use an rca plug are too fuzzy/grainy to read anything one with an output from a computer. You can get some really small motherboards with built in everything, that is what I picked up, though I am not sure if I will ever get around to this project or not, probably not as I don't have any good way to mount this stuff in my '75 Monte Carlo. I also ended up with a flip-down lcd that mounts on the ceiling of your car, but it uses an rca input.
Also, check out http://www.mp3car.com/ for some good info on this subject, they have a pretty nice forum, with people doing all kinds of work on the in car computers.
