Women Using Beyond TV Link In Kitchen

Possible What the Women Is Using In The Beyond TV Link Picture

I'm looking to get a computer in the kitchen because I soon plan on building a PVR using Beyond TV 3. While searching on there site I came across this picture of a women in the kitchen using there software to watch a recording. However this is kind of expensive and I was wondering if there is something similar or a better way to bring a computer into the kitchen?

Should be easy to do for under $1000. with standard parts. There is an RF device that can distribute your cable channels throughout your house if you can't run an actual branch cable.

IDK who would buy tech from Salton anyway???

What is the RF device that can distribute cable without running a cable line. This is pretty much the problem I'm faced with as to my kitchen does not have a cable outlet and running wire to it would not be easy considering we live in a condo.

OR what you could do is get a used laptop with a pentium or 486/386 processor in it and just use THAT has the kitchen computer....

That makes a lot of sense to me. Then when you go on a trip, you can take it with you, or move it anywhere in the house. We're talking wireless LAN here. Cool!

The laptop idea sound good and probably cheaper. I just have to find one that will be ok. 486 might be a little older than I would like, but the whole laptop idea is something I can picture. Thanks for the help.

Can other people tap into your broadcasted cable?

And as for the laptop, I wouldn't go that old as the laptop would not be very useful for other tasks. If you want to go cheap I have seen Dells under the $600 range.

What exactally do you need to do with this computer in the kitchen? Are you really going to be doing PVR functions on this device or do you need a simple web browser or something of the sort? If your going to do PVR, the smallest configuration possible would be to get a USED $600 with a fairly powerful processor, a USB 2.0 card, and ATI's Tv Wonder USB 2.0. IIRC it does PVR functions. You would be better off though with a laptop with USB 2.0 built in because the PCMCIA bus is quite limiting.

1.Laptop off ebay or some special buy like from dell that HAS USB 2.0 built in
2. ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0
3.If WIFI is not built in, WIFI card
4. ?
5. Profit!

I won't be doning PVR from that computer in the kitchen, but I will be playing recorded showes, possibly watching live tv from the actual PVR machine and some basic computer task my wife may do (look up recepies, address book, etc)

I wonder if one of those ECS "desknote" machines would be useful - they have a similar form-factor to a laptop, with an LCD screen, but no battery - they still run off of AC (and still have desktop-level performance, more or less).
