Hello All,
I am wondering about my HDD. For about the last week my system has become very unstable and I am thinking that its my HDD although I really don't know as its only an educated guess 🙂

Here are the symptoms, when I go to the log-on screen as I have my system set p for my daughter, wife and myself after selecting myself it takes frigg'n forever and a day to finally get into Windows and when I do it is impossible to use as everything takes about 2-minutes to complete its task.

But whats weird is sometime I can get into Windows and everything runs great like right now as I am using my computer to type this but I know that it will do that slow thing soon.

Here is what I have done so far, I have reinstalled Windows (XP) and it still does it also disconnected all of the extra hardware that I was using so as of right now I have my keyboard and mouse being used and it still does it too.

it could be my P/S which is a 500W compusa (don't laugh) its been working great for over a year now, also I put in an ATI Radeon X800 too about one month ago and have been playing UT2004 all of the TIME with no problem at all, thats why I kinda thought it could be my HDD.

BTW, my HDD is only about 7 months old.

Thanks for your help, CA

Slowdowns are more often indicative of a virus or spyware. Have you run scans?

Also, how much junk do you have loading on startup?

oops, sorry, I guess I should have said that too. Yes I ran my AV software and my spyware programs and everything was good.

If you think it might be your hdd, download and run the hdd utility from the mfgr's. website. That will narrow down the problem.
