I'm running a Cooler Master 650w Power supply and the hard drive in my computer keeps shutting down and restarting. freezing up my computer for about 5 seconds and it happens quire frequently, about every 5 seconds.
My Computer Specs:
Corsair 650w Power Supply
Asus P5K-E Wifi/AP Edition
Q6600 @ 2.7GHz
2 x 2GB DDR 2 OCZ SLI RAM @ 1000MHz
Nvidia 9800 GTx
120MM LED CPU Fan
3 x 80MM LED fan
1 x Regular 120MM Fan
52x DVD/CD-RW
16x DVD+/- RW with Lightscribe
Floppy Drive
5.1 Logitech Surround sound Speakers
2 x Blue Cold Cathode on the same inverter
1 x Red Cold Cathode on 1 inverter
3 x SATA Hard Drive (200GB, 200GB, 250GB)
Front panel has 4 LEDs
USB Wireless Keyboard + Mouse combo (Only using KB)
USB Wired Microsoft Mouse
Palm Pilot Cradle
USB Hub on Dell 17" Ultrasharp Computer Monitor
Notebook Hard Drive with USB Adapter (Connected to monitor, 2 USB. Data + Power)

Now when this happened, I was making a backup of the notebook hard drive using Acronis to one of the 200GB Desktop hard drives and Listening to online radio and trying to type this which was impossible. As soon as I stopped the backup, everything went back to normal and worked fine. Basically everytime I make a backup whether it be by plugging in the hard drive to the computer or using a USB Adapter, it'll do this. Anybody have any ideas what's wrong? Is my PSU insufficient?

On other note, I can play high end games without any problems on Max Settings such as Bioshock or NFS MW without any freezing up.

Has nothing to do with your PSU. While performing a backup the application is using everything it can to perform the backup as it can. So it will start pulling datta from the HDD as fast as it can as well as using up as much RAM as it can to make the transfer. So its going to bog down the system like that. Thats just the way backup are unless the program is set to the lowest priority. Even then there is a slight delay for the system to back off from the backup to allow other atcions to happen.

I tried another test. I canceled the backup, rebooted the computer and restarted the backup on another hard drive. It worked fine. After that was done, I went to the drive I originally was using and tried to delete the old files that I didn't need. It started to shutdown and restart again. Do you think it's a problem with the drive? That drive sometimes fails to POST and requires several reboots to make it work and be recognized.

Damn, at the worst time too. I needed to take that drive to India with a bunch of pictures, videos and documents.

I know that but shipping is what'll kill me. I'd rather not spend the price of the drive to ship it here next day.
