Computer Hangs at XP's Screen

My computer hangs up at the splash screen that has the Windows XP that is blue and will not move forward. It does this in safe mode also. I can move the mouse around but the screen just sits there for hours. I have tried to reboot in safe mode every way I can. Last good also stops at this page when loading.

I cannot get in the setup screen with any F key. The computer will not boot from the XP CD. I do not have floppy disks for the computer.

Did not add anything. Computer had been getting hit really hard with popups over the last couple of days. I had run spybot and found 127 bogus programs. The computer was running real slow and crashing.

I also went through and uninstalled alot of programs that had been needlessly added.

Lots of reboots and finally the computer would just hand at the XP splash screen.

Then this is probably a blessing in disguise 😀

Since we can all see where this is headed: reinstalling WinXP without getting 0wned in the process and getting your security set up for the long haul. The main question in my mind is why your system won't boot from the WinXP CD. More info on that, if you have any?

And yeah, please don't cross-post, it make my CPU cold with solution. 😕
 
I would love to do all of that, but the computer just sits there with blue windows xp screen looking back at me.

Someone else built this computer and we want to just wipe it clean and start again.

How can I do that if I cannot get the m/c to boot from the CD?
 
What info can you provide about the machine, spec-wise (brand of motherboard would be useful here), and is the Windows CD a genuine Microsoft one with the wild holographic top?
 
Without completey opening the system I cannot tell what MB.

This computer is not mine, but a friends. They have allowed every cat and dog program from the internet to put stuff on the computer. They let Norton expire months ago and not do anything about it.

Someone said to remove the CMOS battery and then reinstall after a bit and hopefully the bios screen setup password would be gone and I could get in.

I tried a couple of boot disks today and the computer would not boot from the floppies.

This thing is a mess.

What precisely occurs when you put their (presumably genuine Microsoft bootable) WindowsXP CD-ROM disc in the drive and reset the system or re-power it? At any time, do you see Press any key to boot from CD... on the screen? If not, get into the BIOS menus and re-order the boot-device menu so the CD-ROM gets the first crack at booting, and then watch for that prompt on the screen. If it's a pre-built Happy Meal? computer from Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, eMachine, etc, then that is important to disclose here 🙂
 
Nothing happens with the genuine MS CD installed upon reboot. I cannot get into the bios hitting any of the keys.

It is a one off built computer.

Yep, I want to reorder the booting from the CD.
 
Check that the keyboard is plugged into the correct port on the rear of the computer, the purple port. And pop the lid and get the brand & model of the motherboard, it will help here 🙂
 
To get into the BIOS, press the 'delete' key when you switch on the computer. OR the F2 key. If (i think i have translated) none of the Fn keys work, then the DELETE key will work - maybe.

Is it a USB keyboard? If yes, there may be problems -

The keyboard is the standard round din type connector.
