Computer Graphics

Hi

I've been taking a look through this forum and it looks pretty good.

I am struggling a little with an assignment which I am doing for uni and I would greatly appreciate some help on it.

I thought the best idea to try and erase any confusion would be to post my assignment word for word. I am a beginner to computer graphics and the subject for the assignment will be on 'Character animation'. Your views, knowledge and links to relevant articles would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Richard

Understand some of the challenges associated with achieving high quality interactive computer graphics and be able to propose and evaluate solutions appropriate to a particular context.

Recognise and appreciate current research issues and trends in computer graphics, be able to synthesise current research and evaluate the effectiveness of current solutions to particular applications.

The object of this exercise is to undertake a piece of research on a topic within the area of computer animation. Your research should be written up as a report. You should familiarise yourselves with the assessment criteria, which give a clear indication of the sort of quality expected.

Essentially, you are expected to provide evidence that you have chosen a reasonably demanding investigation, probably with a substantial technical foundation, and can demonstrate that you have researched this topic using a variety of means at your disposal (literature searches, journals, books, Internet searches etc). You should be attempting to interpret the information gained from your research in a novel way, synthesising the ideas and concepts discovered. You should focus on the most recent/novel research carried out in the area.

Assessment Criteria

Objectives of study: An unambiguous title and clear statement of the objectives of the study. Objectives need to be realisable: not overly ambitious or too trivial in nature.

Introduction to area of study: Clear demonstration of application areas of the area of study undertaken, setting the context of the area of study chosen within the field of computer animation.

Background reading/Literature review/References: Demonstration of wide reading encompassing relevant books, journal articles, conference proceedings, Internet resources.

Quality of research undertaken/Depth of understanding demonstrated: Evidence of an understanding of relevant technologies, evidence of synthesis of material, novel/original approach to the study.

Quality of the layout of the paper: clearly labelled sections, good use of English. The page limit of 6 A4 pages should not be exceeded.

actually, providing a summary...."cliff notes" if you will, would be the best.

Postcount: 1? No cliffs? Homework related? Man, there's nothing working in your favor there.

Daayummm! Is that a computer engineering class or a book-writing class???

Anyways, I can't really quite make out what in the world the professor actually wants you to do... but I think you might want to look at something that is currently a "problem" with modern computer graphics and what the current solutions are for this problem.

For instance, maybe do a search on "anti-aliasing". You'll get a lot of info out there on what the problem is, why it's a problem, and some hardware and software solutions for the problem.

I certainly have got a little flak for my original post.

What I would like to know is what challenges in relation to 'character animation' within computing graphics are experts facing and how are they trying to overcome them?

I am seeking to know only the reasonablt fundemental inforamtion as I am a beginner to this course.

Links to a few tutorials and your opinions would be suffice.

Thanks in advance
Richard.
