Well today I decided to run a virus scan on my computer. About halfway through I discovered a virus named backdoor.optix Well I tried to delete it but couldn't with avg. I ended up downloading a program to remove it but still couldn't delete it. I ended up just deleting the files, and rebooted. Apon reboot, a window popped up wanting me to rename my program file folder to programs1. I just cancalled the action and continued on. I ran a scan again and it was still there. Nothing seemed to remove the virus. I ended up downloading norton antivirus, but it didn't detect it at all. Apon reboot, norton finally detected the virus but a different variation of it. This time it was the backdoor.optix.pro.12.b virus. I have no idea where this came from and why it wasn't detected before. I ended up deleting the files again, and rebooted. When I rebooted, Windows was loading at a crawl. Took forever for it to load. This time around, I couldn't open any programs up. It said it couldn't find the files. Well I opened up my computer folder and copied over all my important files to my backup drive.

Well I ended up formating my harddrive and started over. This virus is very nasty. I couldn't get rid of it no matter what I did. Virus programs didn't work, nor did the programs to to remove the virus worked either.

I have no idea where I got them from. I don't download anything off the internet at all and always keep my firewall and antivirus software up to date.

You just might have a new variant of the virus. If you still have a copy of the virus on your backup, you might try using the feature of Norton AntiVirus to submit the file for analysis - they should get back to you with a fix for it if it isn't already covered in the current virus definitions.

i recommend Moosoft's TheCleaner as a trojan scanner/destroyer for future use. Good luck!
