I have a Asus A7V with T-bird 1ghz that i recently recieved.
When I boot it up I get power to the motherboard - the fans spin and power supply works, but I get no video. No beeps at all, even when I unplug the video card, keyboard etc.

I've tried taking out all non-essential cards and I still get the same thing. I also tried hooking up another power supply and no go. Is there any way to tell if it's my motherboard or if it's the chip? I noticed that to the left of my chip is a little glue type stuff, although it's hard not gooey. Is it fried?

Also, the last time it worked (1st time i booted it up) - I noticed some sort of Bios error message come up, is it possible it got erased?

One last thing - when I boot the computer the power button in the front works fine, but it won't turn the computer off. I have to cut the power from the back. Does that mean a short or something? If so, how can I tell where it is?

Any suggestions would be great. I realize at some point I'll have to try another motherboard or chip, I'm just not sure if I've exhausted all other ideas yet. Thanks!!!

If your vid card was bad, you would probably get beep codes at boot up. The BIOS error message suggests you should check it. Make sure that the correct type of vid card (AGP or PCI) is selected as the default or first to check.

I don't know if your board has onboard video. If so, and the option exists, make sure it is disabled so it doesn't conflict with your vid card.

If that is correct, try to detemine if the cable from the card to the monitor is good. If it is pemanently connected to your monitory, try plugging in a different monitor.

Hope that helps. :)

I can't check my bios because I have no video. The only thing I get when I power on is the motherboard light and cd rom light, fans etc. No HD, monitor, keyboard, mouse.

No onboard video so that's not a problem and I don't think it could be the video card because when I take it out it I should get some beeps. But I don't, I believe that means the BIOS doesn't even recognize that the video card is missing.

Sounds that what happened to me when my mobo goes bad.
I can power on but no video signal and tough to power off (have to hold power for a long time to get it off).
Try plugging the video on other comp (if you have one) to check whether it is a bad video or not.
Or call asus and ask if this a symptom of bad mobo.

Sounds like you may have a motherboard problem. If possible, try your vid card in another machine. Also, as I said, before, make sure the cable to your monitor is good.
