some times if im playing music my computer will just stop, the desktop is still there and the mouse arrow is still there but i can't move anything so i have to restart

im using windows XP pro and its a custom built computer

asus mobo

saphire ATI 9600 vid card

1 gig of ram

160 gig hard drive (just installed)

athlon XP 3000+

and ideas?
 
are you using winamp by any chance? because i just got a sweet ass computer i built with some nice specs on it...and sometimes when i ran music with winamp it would just freeze up for some reason...
 
naw im using windows media player

but also my music icons will revert back to media player 9 icons most of the time, which is also weird
 
Windows Media Player is weird for me period! I've been using winamp for about 3 years now.. always the latest edition and it never did ANYTHING to my computer. Try reinstalling windows media player. Try uninstalling winamp > restart > install winamp. Also can you play music with ANY player with your computer remaining stable ?
