computer freezing in windows, restart and shutdown

yesterday my comp started freezing in windows. it barely loaded windows and froze up. i got into safe mode and did an online virus scan and got rid of a couple viruses. when i restarted windows loaded fine, but when i try to open a program it either freezes or will not open. the programs that don't open show up in taskmanager though. when i try to restart or shutdown it freezes when windows is logging off or shuttin down. everything loads fine and shuts down fine in safe mode. i would appreciate some help.

Maybe try to back up all your important stuff onto another drive or CD/DVD RW if it will allow you and then just reinstall windows.

That's a pretty good suggestion by dph1077... if you have indeed been infected and you know 100% that there were viruses present, a format / reinstall might be the only way to get 100% peace of mind. The last thing you want is some crap lurking around on your system. Best of luck..
