Computer freezing after Windows Splash Screen

Hi all,

problem is with a Gateway computer. This computer has a PIII 1GHz and Windows ME.

when i power it on, get an error message about the HD, then prompts me to press enter to continue, then loads Windows, but before any of the desktop is loaded, it just shows my wallpaper with the scandisk program running, and it never ends... have left it on overnight, and nothing happens, it gets to about 75% and seems to hang there.

any ideas or suggestions other than reformatting the HD?

thanks 🙂

i had a gateway that was doing that. i ran fdisk and reformatted. put w2k on it and it runs perfect.
Win Me is crap, so is gateway software. w2k picked up all the drivers except the modem
