Computer freezing a hardware problem?

My computer I just put together freezes ALL the time, CS works for a little bit and than the screen just freezes. Sometimes, the computer freezes on the Sierra startup screen. Contral Alt Delete won't even work, must reset. The specs are:
ECS P4VXAD mobo
P4 2.26
512 mg DDR Ram
Asus V8170 Geforce4 MX440 DDR
Creative SB Live! plantinum
Pioneer DVD 116 16X
Liteon 32X burner

Besides CS freezing, other games like Warcraft III will work the first time, and then the second time you start it up again, it freezes, must restart all the time for the computer to operate. I don't know if this is a problem with Windows Me or is there some kind of hardware conflict going on between my parts. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Well, Windows ME is an unstable OS to begin with. It has more quirks and problems than any other iteration. I believe the SB Live! might be your problem. I have been having problems with my system lately, and I think it is related to the SB Live. I have problems in Counter-Strike as well. No other game seems to have problems though, so it may be isolated.

I run CS fine with my Live Value card...or at least stably most of the time. CS has its standard little quirks that happen to everyone, but I've never had stability problems with any game due to the SB card.

Is your system overclocked at all? I'm thinking it's a RAM issue, do you have 1 or 2 sticks?

Strangely enough I`ve tried my best to wreck WinME by OC`ing switching boards most everything and find that WinME survives about anything I do to it...? I even have the same original install from over a year ago running on a raid setup right now and its on 2-45gig 75GXP`s (which I`m sure you`ll say is junk as well...) Ever think It might be a video driver problem...? While it is possible the SB & VIA may not be getting along (though I`ve never had this problem with WinME...?) I would look to trying different video drivers first... Cheaper too...

I have 2 sticks of 256 mb ddr ram . . . I think i am going to try a different os and see what happens . . . Any other possibilities?
