Computer freezes when watching videos - CPU problem

Just recently my computer has started freezing when watching videos. It basically just freezes and becomes completely unresponsive requiring a restart. Happened twice so far, once while watching a fullscreen youtube video and another time while watching a trailer in game (mass effect 2). I'm running an E8200 @ 3ghz and 8800gt @ stock.

I found out that my CPU seems to be exhibiting odd temperatures under stress, much higher than usual.

A 3 minute orthos CPU stress run got it to 83C on coretemp and 76 on realtemp.

So in my BIOS config it said the frequency of the CPU was 4.11ghz 0_o. FSB was 375 though and I lowered it to the normal 333.

Still hits those same temperatures, just slower.

It is very odd, seems to have difficulties cooling or something. Got into windows @ 56C stable temperature. Did the 3 minute orthos test where it got up to 83 and then it quickly got down to 66/67C or so and is now slowly (SLOWLY) going down to the mid 50s again. Has taken about 5 minutes to get down to 60.

When doing the orthos test it seems to stabilise around 70C for a minute or so then goes out of control hitting mid 80s.

Edit: CPUID Hardware monitor says that my fan is at a constant 968 RPM - it does not speed up when I launch the stress test (nor do I hear it speed up). Speedfan confirms fan is at about 1000rpm constantly.

And now, while looking through the BIOS the fan speed suddenly (without any change by me) jumps to 1900rpm.

Just tried Orthos again and after 5min the temperature is at a steady 67C in realtemp and 72C in coretemp which is still a little on the high side.

The actual fanspeed seems to be stuck again though, now its at a constant 1900 - 2100 and doesn't change no matter how cool/hot CPU is. Speedfan says it is at 65% but raising it does not seem to alter the fan speed.

This is why I didn't go into IT
