I bought a Visiontek Geforce2 GTS-V card when I first made my system. It ran fine, but I ended up swapping it out for a Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO. I tried installing the GTS-V in my girlfriend's 6 year old comp and it would freeze the computer after about 5-10 minutes. Thought maybe her computer was too old to handle a new video card. She's running PII 266mhz with 128mb ram.

Yesterday I installed the card into my friends computer which is a P4 1.4ghz with 128mb RDRAM (comparable to my system exept I have Athlon XP 1600+ and 512mb DDR) and he's telling me he's experiencing the same problems. His computer freezes after a while. The card has not undergone any OCing and has always been taken very good care of.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas whats causing the freeze? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Also if anyone has had any experiences with a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 64 MB Kyro II video card, lemme know what you think of it. Thanks.

I can think of a couple of things that may be causing probs, first off it could be a confilcting IRQ, to check this go into your system control panel (Start>Settings>Control Panel>System) then click on device manager then click display adapters then go into the properties, then click on the resources tab and it will tell you if there is a conflict or not.

Also it could be that the fan is dying or dead, which in turn would cause the card to overheat, take the side panel off and start up the computer to check if the fan is running or not, and also I'd try installing a new set of drivers for the geforce 2, version 23.12 works great with the geforce 2's, hmmm that's all I can think of for now, let us know

Try flashing the motherboard BIOS to the latest version. My friend's GF2MX wouldn't install on his 440BX motherboard until we updated his system BIOS.

EDIT: I just read the rest of your post about your friend's P4 system. Maybe the card is just damaged. I bought a refurbed GTS-V from Newegg once that wouldn't work properly as soon as I installed drivers for it.

No IRQ conflicts, fan on the card is running fine. I did install more updated drivers and it seems to be running fine now. I told my friend to try and test it out for a while and let me know if it still freezes. Hopefully the updated drivers was the solution.

Thanks to all that responded. Great info...I appreciate it. :)

same problem here, but mine is
Elsa GF2MX + Epox 8KTA2 (KT133).
different AGP drive value, different driver, updated bios - all don't help.
