I've got a Foxconn 6150K8MA-8KRS motherboard, a A64 Venice 3200+ (unoverclocked so far) and 2 x 512MB Corsair ValueSelect. The processor and motherbaord are new.

Whenever I try to play a video (WMF, AVI, VOB) file the machine just freezes after opening the relevant media player. the mouse can still move around, but if i press the mouse button a few times the case speaker emits a beep and the mouse pointer freezes too.

I've tried reintalling Windows, different screen card drivers (84.21 and the new 91's), mem tested my memory with no errors.

Anyone have any ideas on what the cause could be?

Since you tried new video drivers, try new audio drivers. Also check for a BIOS update for your mobo.

The processor and motherbaord are new.
Could be either of these. When the system hangs, it could be caused by a hardware error either on the processor, memory, or PCI bus.

OK, so i did the BIOS update and after i restarted it reinstalled the nvidia 6150 drivers, and it worked, I could play video files in both Media Player and PowerDVD, but when I restarted for the drivers to take effect, it went back to its old ways of freezing :( So having the video drivers installed is the reason for the problem. How to solve it I dont know.
