Computer freezes when I try to remove programs (necro)

Certain files that I do a "search" for and try to remove them, I get the constant icon and computer freezes and will not reset, I have to turn off/on to get going again. I had this problem maybe a year ago and fixed it with system resore, however the only options it gives me now is a restore point 3 weeks ago. I have XP, all the updates, anti-everything, and all works fine except being able to remove those programs which are not in add/remove. Any ideas? Thanks

The computer stops functioning at that time and I can't access anything. Shouldn't I be able to set a restore point of several months ago?

Go to control panel, administrative tools, event viewer
there are three tabs on the left have a quick glace through those and see what you can find I would not worry to much about the security tab as I do not think this is going to be the issue here.

What a delay on my part. Sorry. Nothing obvious in event viewer. Seems now that almost anything I try to delete will result in a frozen system that has to be turned on/off to work again. All other parts of the computer work fine?
