Computer Freezes.. Please Help!

OK I have been having this problem for months now and its really starting to bother me. My computer will hard freeze for no reason. It happens with heavy stress to the CPU and when idling. I am running Windows XP Pro SP1.. with all updates! Norton Antivirus 2003, always updated and recent scans. I checked my event viewer to see maybe if something was in there, only a ACPI problem.. i did a fresh format.. deleting partition and formatting back with NTFS disabling ACPI in the BIOS(F7 in Win Setup). I still get these lock ups and I do not know what it is up. I have installed the newest video driver from ATI.. same with hard drive, sound and motherboard drivers. Does anyone know what my problem is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

go to memtest86.com, and download it. Follow the instructions there to make a floppy to test your ram. This sounds like a RAM problem to me.

Well... I only had XP Pro on it and it kept freezing so I just installed Win 2000 Pro in a different dir and it hasnt froze yet in about 2 days.. it would have froze about a good 10 times with the Win XP Pro.. Also it seems only to freeze with windows updates installed, i dont get drivers from windows update.

thanks
