I have a Dell Optiplex GX50 that freezes at random times. The mouse will stop responding at times along with the keyboard. The display also coincides with the freezes (ie: the display will freeze too). I have no idea of what may be causing this. I happens even before Win2k starts up all the way and continues after you logon (if you can). There is nothing in any of the PCI slots. All it has is the standard integrated video, nic, and sound. Any suggestions? I have a feeling that the motherboard is flaking out but I cannot tell for sure. It will give me random errors at times like not detecting the keyboard or the hard drive.

I had a similar problem before with my computer... I would be using it and all of a sudden it would completely freeze on me (Ctrl + Alt + Del doesnt work)... Nothing would help afterwards until I do a hard reboot...

For the longest time I couldnt find out what it was... then I found that it's actually the built-in ATA-100 drivers on my motherboard... once I flash my BIOS the problem went away for good...

might wanna try that out...

You mean the onboard IDE controllers? I suspected that they might be the problem since for a little bit the computer was not detecting the harddrive. The harddrive is fine as verified buy Western Digital's diagostics.

Edit: Too bad I don't have PCI IDE card.

yeah the on-board IDE controllers... my Asus A7V has on-board ATA-100 support... once I updated the ATA-100 drivers, the problem went away completely...
