Computer freezes in every game...

Yes, after playing ANY game for like...5 mins (?) the game just freezes and i have to restart the computer. I'm not OCing, i'm running the latest drivers from Nvidia website (properly installed, as well)...It just started doing this monday after I installed the XG 77.77, then i tried the 78.01, and that seemed to fix it, but apparently not anymore.

I just tried playing AOE3, and it freezes!! NOO!!! BUT it only freezes when there is actually 3d game stuff going on (so the aoe3 menu would count).

PLEASE help! this is weird...and...very not good.

it can be the CPU/video card overheating. room temp? other people will point out your sony PSU being the problem. maybe not enough for the 6600GT? does it need an extra power adapter?

It's not the PSU...i've been running it like this for a few months. trust me, thats not the problem.

Then again, it is like 85 in here. I'm idling at 48-50....hm....yeah not good. Its weird that the 78.01 seemed to fix it, but it didn't.....grr...

Oh i should mention that HL2 games don't freeze. thats odd.

and the molex is in...its not power related. would it help to mention that SOME fan in the computer gets really really loud when i restart it (after it freezes)? i think its the 6600gt....soooo.....yeah...heat issue? anything i could do...my house has been 85 before and not done this.

I used to have a simular problem, but it was years ago when I had an Nvidia Geforce 3. Most of the time it was the famous BSOD problem which was solved by changing a few things in the BIOS. Your situation sounds like a driver problem. Try this. Boot into safe mode and uninstall your nvidia card drivers. Reboot the machine into normal mode and run Regcleaner. Download it here: http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/programs/regcleaner.exe, reboot again and install the latest drivers. Let me know if it works for ya.

Yeah, so far its frozen in Halo, AOE3, and FEAR demo...not HL2, CSS, BG2, etc...hm

Some other threads on google said it could be a directx issue?

If HL2 is running without problem (I love their engine) , and other games aren't this I am almost certain it is a driver issue. Do you have your board or memory or any vid card overclocked at all? I know that when I push my board around 2.65 mhz, I start to get lockups and such just as you were decribing. Figured I would ask for the heck of it

I have 9800xt and it overheats constantly when I game. My only solution has been to remove the side panel and stick a room fan on high, blowing into the case. Of course when it's 95 degrees outside and my ambient room temperature is 100, I can't game at all even with the room fan.

Yeppers, I am surprised nobody mentioned that yet. I would reinstall DirectX 9c, it could also be a problem with overheating, the Prescott P4 that's in that machine will give off some serious heat!!
