Computer freezes before I can install Windows XP

I recently purchased a MSI 1013 laptop with a 2 ghz turion 64, 1 gig of ram and 60 gig hard drive.

Problem is, when I try to boot from my windows CD, it goes into

"Detecting Hardware Configuration...."

and then goes into a black screen and stays that way....

The hard drive light seems to be blinking however.

I know that Windows XP will fail to install when it detects bad RAM on installation.

My experience was that the installation would halt and the system would reboot. When I Googled something to that effect, I found links to what I have stated.
