Computer freezes after 2-4 minutes!

I just finished installing WinXP on my new computer. Now, EVERY 2-4 minutes, the computer will freeze. I was able to install the VIA hardware moniter that came with my mobo, and it says the CPU temp is from 84-86 degrees Farenheit. This is relativley cool, and does not explain the freezing. I also installed the newest nvidia video drivers.

My computer consists of the following:

Motherboard: iWill KK266
CPU: Athlon XP 1700+
RAM: 256 MB Crucial PC133
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 4 80gig
Video card: GeForce3 ti200
Some random NIC
Power Supply: NEW Antec 400Watt (just bought yesterday)

Can anyone shed any light on this problem? Normally, something like this is because of overheating, or a faulty power supply, but neither of these seem to be the case.

Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be much appreciated!

did u try with a different OS? maybe try a different stick of memory or putting the memory in a different slot. try slowing down the memory timings. some boards are just picky with components. it might be time to start swapping parts to try to isolate the problem.

edit...try taking out the nic. i've had nic's mess up a computer before, usually due to conflicts.

Good advice there, normally starting with a minimal install fo hardware and adding components one at a time is a good way to track the problem down. Also check your CPU ,ram voltage as well.

Btw welcome to AT forums, BimmerGuy330 .

Uhhh 4Hdd's is a lot and no CD-ROM? Weird

Antec400w should be more than enough for your system i think, i would keep it in mind thought.

That's not 4 harddrives, that's the model... usually denoted with roman numerals instead...

Yeah, definately try to isolate the problem... check the temps in the bios when you're rebooting as well just to double check that that software is reporting them correctly. Are you doing anything in particular when it freezes? Have you done any driver updates or changes? If so, maybe that's the problem... if not, maybe that's still the problem 😉.
