computer freezes - A7V333 and 333fsb

i put my 2600 (333), another PC2700 memory stick and slk800a in A7V333.

problem is when i set it to cpu speed 2083 (333 fsb) the computer locks up after just a minute and all i can do is reset (not windows/can't reboot or even cut it off). this only with happens on 333 fsb. if i run on 133/33 all is fine.

according to asus my mobo should support 333 with the new bios - maybe it just doesn't. what do you think? suggestions?

my bios settings:

cpu speed :1667 MHz
cpu multi :12.5x
cpu/pci freq :133/33
cpu/mem freq ratio :1:1 or 4:5
vcore :1.650

[asus probe]
cpu - 32C
mb - 27C
+12V - 12.064
+5V - 4.999
+3.3V - 3.232
VCore - 1.68

-----------------------------------------

cpu speed :2083 MHz
cpu multi :12.5x
cpu/pci freq :166/33
cpu/mem freq ratio :1:1
vcore :1.650

[asus probe]
cpu - 34C
mb - 28C
+12V - 12.128
+5V - 4.972
+3.3V - 3.2
VCore - 1.696

*tried running without the new stick of ram - still locked with cpu 333 fsb.

pretty sure it's my mobo/333 fsb but could something be wrong with the cpu (or would it just be "dead" if something was wrong on arrival?)

Edit: by lowering the multi to 12x with 166 fsb = running at 2 GHz and upping the vcore 2 steps to 1.700 i have been able to get it almost perfect. just 1 freeze in several hours of use. how far can i safely up the vcore?
