Computer freeze when watching Vids / internet surfing

The problem with my computer is that it freezes when watching internet vids, or when surfing the net. My computer seems to have a particular adversion to internet videos when watching videos through Steam. However, when I am playing games there seems to be no problem at all. I have all of my drivers up to date, and I can't seem to figure out what is causing this issue. Any suggestions on where to start looking are greatly appreciated!

My rig:
Asus z68 MOB
7970 GPU
2x4 gig Corsair 1600 Ram
2500k CPU

Everything runs at default voltage. The only component that I've tweaked it my ram to be at 1600, and enable my MOB integrated graphics to take advantage of the MOB gpu scaling. I'm thinking this could be the result of a failing ram stick, but I don't know that for sure.

sounds like a graphics card driver issue.. When you say your drivers are all up to date, does that mean you've updated them after the problem started? if not, then do so, ...

Within STEAM there is a setting to verify local cache integrity, etc.. so try that as well if you haven't already...

See if you can monitor your temp of GPU.. to ensure its not overheating.. and also make sure you're running all default /stock settings for the GPU within ATI CCC

Do you have your CPU or GPU overclocked? If so, go back to stock and see if it continues to happen. Do you have it lock up on any other activity, including CPU or GPU intensive actions? If you are unsure, run Prime95 or FurMark to test your system and it may also give you a good idea if your PSU is strong enough.

I'm currently running my GPU on default settings, and is not overclocked (same goes for CPU). I'll look into the steam cache thing and see if that helps at all, and run prime95 and see if that can shed some light on the situation. 🙂

Do you use Firefox? I've had problems with Firefox lately. If Firefox is the problem switch to a different browser (IE, Chrome, Opera, etc.).

Is the computer locking up or is the video just buffering? Does ctl, alt, del work when the computer is "locked up"? Does hitting numlock cause the numlock light to go on and off? Does the CPU workload shoot up when locked up?

more like a browser plug in.active x flash player.

I agree with this as well. I have had lockups start over the last couple weeks and I've narrowed it down to Chrome and videos - not just Youtube but the damned video ads on certain sites as well. I have a feeling it's Flash or something similar. I haven't troubleshooted it yet since it's kind of rare and I'm building another computer anyhow, but I do believe that's the problem. For me anyhow and quite possibly you as well.

FWIW that's where I'd start, with something like Flash.
