my friend wants to build a computer fer his car (dont ask me why. Basically he wants the thing to be dirt cheap. He's gonna use it primarly for mp3s and dvds. Basically he needs the cheapest graphic card with tv out to connect to the tv that is already in there. A cheap sound card, dvd rom, etc. Should he even buy a case? =) i dont know exactly where he wants to put it but smaller the better i guess. Does anyone have any recommendation. He wants to keep it as cheap as possible. Thanks

if he's already got a TV in his car, he should have plenty of money. Just get a cheap-ass laptop and specialized stereo deck. Wouldn't something like that fit his needs?

Yea, I was thinking of just such a thing a few months back. At first I thought of an old Pentium class system in the trunk, but it would be too hard to put a cd-rom in the dash(because of cable lengths. Then I thought to put it under a seat. I figured it all out and then it hit me, a laptop is perfect for this kind of thing.

here is a link you might want to look at. This is one my dad is currently using in his truck. An old P120 w/ 16MB RAM will work just fine for it, so dirt cheap shouldn't be a problem. Once I get a job (spring), we will be working on mine, which will be sporting an LCD disply, custom case, and a couple more gadgets.

Hehehe, start a convoy and deathmatch!! :)

A P120 would be ok for MP3's(probably), but not for DVD's. You'd need a little more horsepower, like about 400mhz.
