I just added a second video card and monitor to my w2k setup and now it feels as if the computer is slower. Opening programs, switching between windows, everything feels a tad slower. any idea why this is?

Here are my system specs:

Dual celeron 366@550 on a tyan tiger 100
1 gig of ram

video card 1: geforce 2 mx 400 64 meg
video card 2: nvidia vanta (based on tnt)

Using nvidia nView software.

Thanks,

that is a slower system
maybe the fact that the system has to communicate with another vid card is slowing it down a tad
just the tiniest bit more 2d work but that shouldn't account for any noticeable performance hit
hmmm odd

If you have 2 separate video cards, you don't have to use any special software, Windows will allow you to use both natively. Perhaps using the nview (which is mostly for cards with dual outputs) is slowing you down? Try it without nview and see what happens.

I set up dual monitors yesterday as a matter of fact, and I am having the same issues. If fact I can tell my system is stressing bc I can actually hear my music slow down. I noticed that it mostly seems to occur when I am doing stuff on the 2nd display... I really don't think this should be happening considering my specs:

A7M266-D w/ 1 MP 1800+
512 registered DDR
Radeon 8500DV (primary)
Voodoo 3 5000 (secondary)

Any more thoughts?

Well no wonder you're having problems!!! You have a video card that doesn't exist! :) Seriously, You probably meant a Voodoo3 2000 or 3000 PCI.

I didn't experience any slowdown on my Athlon 1.33 when I was running my Geforce2 MX as primary and my Voodoo3 2000 as secondary. I did use the last official 3DFX release from Voodoofiles.com though and not the built in Win2k drivers. Hope that helps.

Yes, its the 3000. Good point tho, I will try something other than 2K's built in drivers. Thanks :)
